I AM A WIDE RECEIVER

The world has taught us that being a receiver is selfish, that we don't deserve anything, that we should only consider the needs of others, and that our altruism is all that matters. I believed that—until I started studying the Word again. Jesus gave healing to the people, the disciples gave food to the people, Moses gave freedom to the people, Boaz gave wheat and wealth to Ruth, God gave wisdom to Solomon, and you know what—the people had to RECEIVE the healing, the gifts, the food, the freedom, the wealth, and the salvation. I am not saying that you should not give to others. The Bible commands us to do so. But, how could we give help to them if they were not open to receiving our help?

As women, we are natural caregivers. We are mothers, wives, sisters, friends, aunties, and countless other titles. But, we are also tired, worn out, weary, and angry martyrs. And as much as you may not like to hear it—it is our own fault. We give until it hurts and then we are angry when it is not given to us.

Can I help you become energized and happy today? I have three letters for you: A-S-K. Ask for help with the kids, for assistance with the laundry, for a day off from work, for healing in your body, for a vacation, for new ideas, for wisdom, for peace. You have not because you ask not. Which means that you receive not. I know it's going to be a rough and unfamiliar task, but learn to be a receiver.

The next time someone asks you: M'am, do you need help with that? Why don't you sit down and let me wash the dishes? Do you need a day off, you look beat? Do you need a ride to the doctor's office? Would you like to have a girls' night out and leave the kids at home? SAY YES! It's okay to do something for YOU! It is okay to be a receiver!

This week's verse begins with an admonition to you that you don't have the things you want because you don't ask for them. But, it goes on to say later in the chapter, that you should do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Still having trouble? Let me spell it out for you: If you give to others, be ready for them to give to you. Notice that I didn't say "expect" for them to give to you. BUT, if they want to pour into your life, be ready to receive it. Stop throwing yourself into martyrdom and RECEIVE the blessings that God has been trying to give you.

Jesus gave His beautiful, divine life for me so that I might have life and have it more abundantly. I can't give abundance, I've got to receive it.

MIND: The next time you consider sowing a seed in someone's life or business, or into your place of worship. Consider the law of the seed—sowing, time, and harvest. Be intentional with your seed and expect to receive your harvest. Galatians 6:7–9

BODY: Practice focusing on your body language. A closed hand cannot receive. Arms crossed over your body does not show others that you are open to receive. Closed eyes do not recognize a blessing when it is in front of them. Be open, be aware, and be ready to receive. Luke 6:38

SPIRIT: In your prayers this week, practice praying with your palms open and facing upward. When you are ready, tell God that you are ready to receive all that He has intended for your life. Then, get ready! Ephesians 3:20

For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. ~ Matthew 7:7–8
