Transformers, Roll Out
The Bible provides examples of self-actualization
and transformation, and what happens when we begin to see ourselves as He sees
us. David regarded himself as a sheepherder until Samuel told Him the plans
that God had for him. Once David defeated the giant, he had the realization
that, indeed, he had it in him to become a king.
Abraham and Sarah saw themselves as old and no
longer had dreams of having children. But, once they stepped out of their
familiar place and saw themselves as God saw them, He blessed them with
Isaac.
Moses was an abandoned child who became a prince of
Egypt. His mother gave him away, he was adopted, his parents kept the truth
from him, and he found out that he wasn't who he thought he was—who his parents
had raised him to be. But, God! After dealing with his internal mess, he
listened to the voice of God and realized that he was indeed a prince, because
he was a son of The King. He embraced this truth and led God's people to the Promised
Land.
Transformation begins in the mind, and the body
follows the mind. The truth will set you free, but you will only remain
free if a transformation takes place. You can't have the same mind, or you will
go back into the same old wineskin.
MIND: When you catch yourself caught
up in old ANTs (automatic negative thoughts), make a conscious decision to
replace them with a positive affirmation. The more conscious you are of this
decision, the faster your thought patterns will change.
BODY: Do something you've never done
before this week. If you have cable, go to the exercise channel and pick a
workout and do it. If you usually go for a walk, go to the store and pick up a
yoga DVD and do it. Yoga is definitely a mind, body, spirit connection.
SPIRIT: Read your favorite Bible
verse, but in a different translation. You may gain wisdom that you didn't see
before. A good place to do this is at www.biblegateway.com.
Here's an example:
"So here's what I want you to do, God
helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating,
going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering.
Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don't
become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even
thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside
out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it.
Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of
immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in
you" Romans 12:1-2 (The Message).
